# Introduction

This guide explains how to authenticate the Proofpoint connector in Swimlane using **HTTP Basic Authentication**. You will collect the required credentials and configure the connector inside Swimlane.

# Prerequisites

## Proofpoint Access Requirements

- Access to the Proofpoint administration portal
- Permission to access the Proofpoint REST API
- A valid Proofpoint user account with API access enabled

- URL
- Principal (username)
- Secret (password)

# Authentication Method Overview

## HTTP Basic Authentication

This method is used to authenticate requests to the Proofpoint REST API.

You will need:

- URL
- Principal
- Secret

# Proofpoint Setup

Take the following steps to prepare Proofpoint credentials:

1. Log in to the Proofpoint administration console.
2. Verify the user account has access to the Proofpoint API.
3. Confirm the API endpoint URL for your Proofpoint tenant.
4. Record the username as the** Principal**.
5. Record the password as the **Secret**.

# Connector Configuration in Swimlane

1. Log in to Turbine.
2. From the left-hand navigation pane, click **ORCHESTRATION** and click **Assets**.
3. Asset homepage opens.
4. Click the **plus** icon to open the Configure your Connector Asset window.
5. Select **Proofpoint** from the Asset type list.
6. Fill in the **Asset Settings **and **Asset Input** as shown:

# Troubleshooting

- Incorrect URL – ensure the Proofpoint REST API endpoint is correct.
- Invalid credentials – verify the **Principal and Secret**.
- Insufficient permissions – ensure API access is enabled.
- SSL errors – adjust verify\_ssl if required.
- Proxy issues – verify http\_proxy configuration.
